What are the steps becoming a chef?

  • i'm 20 years old and i need to start going to school again. culinary was my plan b since plan A didn't work out for me and i just want to know what the steps are to becoming a chef. like school and what do i do after school? ask for a job some where or do i find a chef and become a intern slash apprentice and wait till the place hires me? please and thank you :)

    culinary school. if you are not passionate about then u will hate it. when u start as a chef u will probably need to start as a cook and learn more or become a preper in kitchen/ dish washer. its not an easy job very intense if u can handle that ur good then. Good Luck! :)

My advice to you would be to start by getting a job in a professional kitchen, and enroll as an apprentice. It's possible to do a paid apprenticeship - I did it. Obviously you should apply for school, and once you graduate it shouldn't be too difficult to find a job where you can complete your apprenticeship. It's also pretty common for chefs to travel from kitchen to kitchen, working for short periods of time to gain experience. You won't get paid much, and you may not get paid at all, but if you're serious about the job then it's an incredible experience. But if you're not passionate about it, don't do it. Trust me, you'll hate it; it's not a glamorous job by any means, and it doesn't always pay well. Do what you love.
