How do I convert the amount of whole flax seed needed in a recipe to a ground amount?
-
I want to try out a new recipe that calls for flax seeds. The recipe gives the amount in whole seeds. In the prep, the seeds must be ground. I would like take a shortcut and purchase flax seeds alreedy ground but how do I convert the amount in the recipe from whole to ground?

Answer:
Since flax seeds are so small to begin with, you can use a slightly shallower version of the same measuring spoon. For example, if it calls for 1 tsp, then instead of a level teaspoon, try filling the teaspoon slightly less full of the ground version to account for the minuscule spacing between that would have been the whole seeds.
