Can i use vanilla extract as a substitute for almond extract?

yes, but do this Halve the amount Measure out that amount of almond extract. For example, if your recipe requires 1 tsp. of vanilla extract, only use 1/2 tsp. of almond extract. Add the almond extract when the recipe states to add the vanilla extract.

You can use ANY EXTRACT FOR ANY RECIPE OR NONE AT ALL!! Extracts are just for flavor or enhancing the flavor!! They are NOT necessary to the outcome of any recipe. Some salt IS necessary or the food will be flat tasting as hospital food is!!

Julie, you can use vanilla extract, not the same flavor as almond of course.
