How to cook a steak?

I want to cook a steak now and again to go with something like green vegetables and mash. All I can afford are the big, thin frying steaks that are around £2/3 pounds at the butchers. I cooked one once before and fried it. But now I am more health conscious; is there another way you can cook this type of steak? Thank you very much for your help.

Frying in itself is NOT unhealthy. It's the oils and fats that people add that make it unhealthy. You can broil or grill meats, but a fast-fry steak like the one you've described will cook very quickly and potentially burn using these methods. I would suggest you fast-fry it without any added oils or butter in a non-stick pan with garlic, onions and mushrooms.

you could always try stir-frying the steak in a pan with vegetables. This way you could cut out more of the fat in steak and you could incorporate more veggies and nutrition in your meal. Just slice the meat and the veggies you want and toss it in a pan with a little oil and sizzle it until it's cooked. Pretty simple enough, I think.

you could get a george foreman grill cos they take out all the fat from meat i sometimes use mines for bacon and sausages if im not in the mood to fry them. hope this helps.

The very best way: Choose a loin steak, cut 3/4 to 1 inch thick. Set a hardwood charcoal fire going in an outdoor grill. Pre-arrange the grill so that the meat will be 1-1/2 to 2 inches above the coals. Soon as you light the charcoal, come inside and pat your steak dry. Sprinkle it with a papain-based tenderizer, garlic powder and Worchestershire sauce. Pierce all over the face of the steak with a table fork, just jabbing it, so that everything will penetrate. Flip the steak over and do the same to the other side. Let it sit in a plate until your flames burn down and your coals are coated with white ash. Distribute them evenly under where the meat will be, set the cooking rack above them, plop your steak on and close the lid (with all ventilation holes wide open.) Check after about 5 minutes, and then every minute or to after, until you're satisfied with the shade of doneness on the coals side of the meat. Flip it and cook the other side the same way. Meat is done when you can stick it with a fork or a knife tip and the juices don't run pink. TAKE CARE NOT TO OVERCOOK !! If you've started with a good grade of meat, you will scarcely need a knife to cut your steak.

With this cut you should - a. tenderise well using a mallet (or a rolling pin will do but be careful not to 'mash' it) b. flash fry in a very hot pan (only a little, healthy, olive oil needed) for one minute on each side - or stir fry in a very hot wok. This is the best way to avoid chewing leather. Why not get a braising steak (similar price and more tasty in my opinion)? Seal both sides in a hot pan, then turn the heat down add a little water and onions and slow cook for about 30 minutes with the lid on the pan. Really tender and just as good value for money. Enjoy

you could always slice and cube it and use it in a casserole, that way you get the veg , no fat and can do mash with it, tasty, send me some.

u could grill it slowly under a medium grill,or do it slowly in the oven.I like 2 coat mine with butter after rubbing it with a clove of garlic.
