Can you scrub clay off a mug?

Can I use glass or a clay cup/mug to make custard pudding?

  • I really want to make a simple custard pudding and I found a recipe on this funny mini cooking show on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=N6JZx86OyXM And I have all the ingredients and materials but the custard cups! If I were to put in boiling water, what material would do? I know glass is not a very good heat conductor, how about (I think it's a) clay mug instead of a custard cup? Or would I have to go buy some?

  • Answer:

Make certain that the mug you use can go into an oven. That should be fine.

It has to be Pyrex glass for baking but the mugs would do if they are stoneware and most are. Just be sure to pour in the water bath in a pan under them and be sure to always put nutmeg...grated...on top of anything with eggs in it...you will see why...ummm so good.

A regular coffee cup or pyrex cup will do. Custard cups are not made out of anything special, it's just the size the recipe is referring to. You can also put your custard in a larger pan and cook it longer.
