What are your family's favorite Thanksgiving dishes & recipes?
-
I'm cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner for my small family - 3 people - and I'm trying to pick all our favorites. Mostly what I'm stuck on are the side-dishes & veggies. So far we're planning: Turkey (duh) gonna try to do the traditional oven-roasting thing ..... Dressing (in with the turkey I guess) Corn & Green Bean Casserole Stuffed Eggs Potato Salad Blueberry Cheesecake Pecan Pie (w/vanilla icecream =) (Sweet Potatoes w/ Marshmallows (maybe - seems like too many sweets ??) Also if y'all have any recipes to share... I'll get the ball rolling with: Puppy Chow Ingredients - * 9 cups Chex® Cereal (either rice, wheat, chocolate or combine them) * 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips * 1/2 cup peanut butter * 1/4 cup butter or margarine * 1 teaspoon vanilla * 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar Directions - 1. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside. 2. In 1-quart microwavable bowl, stir together chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag. 3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

You really have everything you need for a good holiday for 3 just don't forget the gravy for the turkey and dressing and you don't always have to stuff your bird if you don't want to you can cook it separately in a baking dish and it'll still be good main thing is to enjoy the holiday with your loved ones. You could add another veggie that you don't eat that often and enjoy it for the occasion. Happy Holidays!!

Growing up, we had oven cooked turkey with potato bread stuffing. (http://www.recipesource.com/fgv/stuffing/potato-bread1.html) It was basically like the link above, but we added celery salt & poultry seasoning and without onions. Also we boiled the celery after chopping it and used that water instead of stock. Its been done that way for a few generations. My grandmother learned it from her mother, and her mother from her's. We had 42 people come over for Thanksgiving... 2 - 30lb Turkey 20lbs Mashed Potatoes 10lbs of Potato bread stuffing Countless cans of cranberry sauce Green Olives Black Olives Corn Green beans Pickle spears Store bought rolls Candied Yams 3 boxes Pumpkin Pie 3 boxes Apple Pie 2 Boxes Mince Meat pie Bought from a market that made them... not the frozen stuff. we didn't have anything special, because there was just so many people... but we loved it anyway and its always special to me. This year I am having Backwoods Breakfast Pie for breakfast http://www.mrbreakfast.com/superdisplay.asp?recipeid=1029 Turkey cooked in an upright Black & Decker rotisserie Mashed Potatoes Homemade Sweet Potatoes http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/holiday_spiced_sweet_potatoes_yams/ (instead of lemon juice I am adding apple cider) Homemade cranberry sauce http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/cranberry_sauce/ Potato Bread Stuffing Potato Salad (a tradition of my in-laws) http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/potato_salad/ Homemade Pumpkin Bread (with & without nuts) http://elise.com/recipes/archives/000842pumpkin_bread.php Pumpkin Pie http://www.dianasdesserts.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/recipes.recipeListing/filter/dianas/recipeID/980/Recipe.cfm Chocolate Cream Pie 2tbs Flour 2tbs Corn Starge 1 1/2 tsp salt 3/4c sugar 2 squares unsweet chocolate 2c milk 3 egg yolks 1tsp vanilla 1tbs shortning (Crisco) Blend flour, corn starch, salt & sugar in sauce pan.
