Answer:
ingredients & tools needed: 1) fresh, good quality coffee grounds (not two year old stuff from the pantry) doesn't have be gourmet or even beans, grounds are fine, so long as they're fresh and good quality. 2) fresh cool water, filtered is fine, but tap will work if that's what you have 3) coffee maker (most are drip type) 4) clean coffee filter -the paper kind 5) 1 coffee scoop (can purchase from grocery store) or 1/8 measuring cup or 1 tablespoon-measuing spoon ...NOT a soup spoon :-) I suggest (and use) 1 level scoop of grounds to 4 cups of fresh cool water (the 4 mark on your coffee maker) so it follows: use 2 scoops for 8 cups of water and for a full pot of 12 cups use 3 scoops.... if you have a 10 cup coffee maker, use 2 1/2 scoops of grounds Note: a coffee scoop = 1/8 cup = 2 measuring spoon fuls To make 4 cups coffee: fill resevoir on coffee pot to the 4 mark with fresh cool water, put clean paper filter in coffee basket , add 1 level scoop (or 1/8 cup or 2 measuring tablespoons) of fresh coffee grounds. Turn on the machine and in a few minutes you will have a respectable pot of coffee! after that, increase or decrease grounds to your taste.

It takes a bit of experiment to find the right coffee and the right strength for you. Coffee wise your looking for a coffee that has a full flavor without alot of bitterness (which comes from unripe beans). I'd suggest Chock full O'nuts as a good easy obtained brand (on the east coast) that meets these requirements. You can always look to local roasters to find a good hand blended mix that suits you likings later. After that the main thing is finding the right stregnth for your preference, start with a tablespoon of coffee for each cup you intend to brew plus one extra for the pot. So if your making 6 cups of coffee, add 7 tablespoons to the pot/filter. If you find it too weak or too strong add or subtract tablespoons as needed. Some people use filtered water others don't, just make sure it's cold when you add it to your coffee maker. I personally prefer a french press style coffee but, that requires a purchase you may not be willing to make. Other than that they only other suggestion I make for good coffee is good cream (if you use cream), I prefer organic, simply because the lack of preservatives.

I like fairly strong coffee...so I use either 1/2 cup beans (before grinding), or 5 heaping tablespoons (of regular ground) per pot. Tastes great to me. :) Freshly ground beans will give you the best, of course. If you must have pre-ground, make sure to get a decent brand. It really does make a difference. I prefer Maxwell House Colombian Supreme. :)

Answrs to this can vary. Either you are not following the instructions properly, you are buying a bad brand or coffee just doesn't siut your taste.

For a 12 cup pot, I use a third cup of ground coffee. Make sure you use cold water to start with, and make sure you use a good quality coffee. By that I mean not generic. Some of the generic brands are ok, but many taste disgusting. Unless you know which to use you could end up being surprised. Folgers or Maxwell house are both good. Unless you are a "coffee snob" this should suit your taste for normal every day coffee. Don't believe that you have to buy some expensive specialty brand of coffee just have have a good cup. You don't, period. I myself do enjoy the more exotic coffees from time to time but for an every day cuppa Joe, you can't go wrong with my recipe above. And I'm known by all my friends and family for making the best coffee around :)

First of all you have to start with a good quality coffee. I always prefer Colombian coffee over all others. Use one teaspoon of coffee for every cup of water. So 4 teaspoons for 4 cups of water. This is how I make coffee everyday. If I want it alittle stronger, I add an extra teaspoon for good measure. If you have crappy coffee like Maxwell House or Folgers....your coffee will always suck. Quality is everything!
