Can you use post-office paper to line a cake tin?

  • I am in a little bit of a pickle as I am making a layer cake and have no baking paper. Can I use brown wrapping paper (from Post Office) or how else could I do it?

    you sure can. Back in the day, brown paper bags cut into a circle was used by thrifty housewives. http://www.ehow.com/how_6172375_replace-parchment-paper-baking.html Also, the wax liner in cereal boxes was also saved for just this. AND before fancy baking paper was available, most housewives used wax paper. In fact older recipes are written that way. As to chemicals in other paper, baking paper is treated with silicone....sort of qualifies as a chemical, don't you think?? and bags or wax paper do not burst into flames when used to line the bottom of a cake pan as non of the paper is exposed. under the right conditions, baking paper burns too.

There different materials, so will have a different effect and reaction to your cake. Brown paper may even set alight, as the material may not allow it to with stand high heats. So you could have a fire on your hands. Even though its a holiday some stores are still open. Cornor shops or even pound stores sell baking paper. Better to be safe than sorry.

Those papers are chemically treated, and the chemicals will leach into your cake batter. Are you so mad at those you're making the cake for that you're willing to feed them chemically contaminated cake? Remind me not to piss you off - or at least don't give me any of that cake!

Rather than using a paper to line just use regular sun flower oil or butter to grease the tin. it will come out perfectly after it baked.

Just grease the pans with oil or butter. Do not use the paper as it may contain toxins that could be potentially harmful to your body. Better safe than sorry!

Probably it would work , make sure you grease it with butter or spread .
