What can I do for a career with video editing?

Is there a good career possibility for 'video editing'?

• I like all-around video editing. for instance I would LOVE for people to give me their cameras with hours of footage and tell me to piece it all together to make a really cool video, miniature movie, music video, ANYTHING. What would this be called? video editing? video production? I could sit in front of iMovie for hours. This is really what I want to go to college for...I'm at the end of my senior year and I haven't applied anywhere because I really don't know if there's a market for this kind of job. any help/advice/input would be greatly appreciated!!

  Don't listen to Harley...there is definitely a market for this kind of job! There are many schools that would offer some sort of film program so that you can gain knowledge and experience in this area. The job of a video editor definitely exists - there is even a Best Film Editing award at the Oscars! If you're really passionate about this, do some additional research about film schools like NYFA, or colleges and universities with film programs. Find one that suits you, and go from there. You could some day edit music videos if that's what you like, or work in TV or film :)
