How do you become a Magazine editor or writer?

What are the steps I have to do to become a magazine editor?

  • I am a freshman in high school and would like to know what steps I would have to take in the future to pursue my career choice. What things will help me become a magazine editor? What should I do in high school and what university would be good? Would UW or NYU be good for this occupation? And do you know of any places in Washington that would offer interns for a magazine?

  • Answer:

A magazine editor does a lot of different things, you probably wouldn't get to be one as an entry-level employee. The best course of action is to learn about writing and publishing, so a school with a good Journalism program would be a good start. I am sure if you helped with any school paper or the yearbook you would get a hands on experience of how to put together something for publishing. AS far as which school you should go to I dont keep up with the programs at each university, contact the place you want to go and ask them about their journalism program. I dont know of any magazine publisher who is based out of Washington, sorry.
