Why does 'Sports Illustrated' print these things?

This week, 'Sports Illustrated' has Joe Dimaggio on the cover talking about how he hit safely in 70 straight games (70 years ago!) Sports Illustrated is supposed to be a sports NEWS magazine, I always thought news had to be NEW or, it isn't NEWS!!
