How can you become a magazine editor?

How do you become a magazine editor or writer?

  • How do you get to write in a magazine or the newspaper? Is there a certain place you should send in ideas to? And last, is there any certain age you need to be to just send in ideas and possibly get something in a magazine/paper? (like a local paper or a magazine like those celebrity magazines or that Discovery Girls magazine)

  • Answer:

You need to look at Writers Market here http://www.writersmarket.com/ or in the library. Entries for magazines, etc., will tell you what they are looking for and how they handle submissions. Some will look at ideas, but many want to see a complete piece of writing from beginners to have some idea of what you can do. So you can practice by writing pieces for possible submission. This assumes you have done enough writing and studying to put together a proper piece. If you are comfortable socially and live in a smaller town, you might call and or wander down to the newspaper and ask about getting in writing by submitting some work based on your going out and finding an activity - what interests the editor.
