Has anyone noticed a difference between Store-Bought and Delivered magazines?

• I've recently subscribed to two magazines that I favor, Wired and Popular Science. I noticed when I retrieved my first issue of Popular Science in the mail, the magazine cover itself was matte and a lot thinner than the store bought glossy version I had purchased earlier. Upon examining the insides I also noticed that the pages were a few smidges thicker than that of rice paper bible pages. When looking at the subscription Wired magazine, I couldn't find any noticeable difference in paper texture or sheen when comparing it to the store bought issue. Why is this? Has anyone else noticed this with certain magazines that they've ordered/bought?

  They do change things depending on different regions. Ads geared toward different locals. Mailed copies are ususally the "generic" copies, and not geared toward the region it's mailed to. Never thought about paper, but maybe they want it to be noticed on the newsstand and assume more people will look at a shiny fancy copy than a matte cover.
