Do I get extra charge if I cancel an order from amazon.com?

How do I get away from these magazine companies?

  • You may have heard of "North Atlantic Magazine Corp" or "Readers Club"... 5 mag subscriptions for 5 years at a discount or something similar. They tell you your savings and that "We won't make you pay this fee the whole time." and charge you three months at a time. Then they voice record you for verification (and legal) purposes. Later, they send you some of what you order and also what you didn't order. They contact you about changing you to a "lower payment". They tell you to keep this separate from any other account. I accepted 2 accounts, but ended up with what... 13!? They've taken $480.15 just last month alone! Apparently you have 5 days to cancel and you can't cancel after that. If you don't pay they charge you with theft of services. They told me they give the subscriptions the money. My questions are 3: 1. Can they really charge me with theft of services, or is this a scare tactic or bluff? 2. If not a bluff, is there a legal way I can escape this financial fiasco? (names and numbers?) 3. Can I cancel on the basis that 9 of these are a misunderstanding since they said "change payments" and I thought they meant on a current account and not a new rate on a new account? I understand the assumption was my mistake but they were not clear, they talked fast, and would not give you a chance to say anything until it was all said and done. A bit of advice... order your magazines strait from the publisher and no where else! By the way, I looked... none are on the BBB.

  • Answer:

that sounds like a "columbia house" type company. they offer deals on cd's and dvd's for free or like a penny. if you dont read the fine print, you might get trapped. i guess look into that. columbia house "scam" i dont think its really a scam. some people have made out like bandits i believe, but others are getting screwed. good luck with that
