Would it be a waste of time to dream of becoming a magazine editor?

Magazines, like books, will always be important cultural artefacts. Much of the news and current events reporting will be moved online, since that realm is capable of being to-the-minute in its delivery, but cultural reporting and feature content will most likely remain in print. These sorts of things carry cultural cachet. People like holding and possessing images. Collecting history. Depending on what kind of magazine editor you'd like to be, I'd recommend making it your #1 priority to understand these sorts of issues. Get writing. Try to get an internship at a local publication.

Magazines will probably be around in some form or another, since the format and the variety of information is something consumers still gravitate to. If it's something you're passionate about, it's worth pursuing, even if the format evolves.

no way! it's my ambition to be a magazine editor, too, and I don't think it's a waste of a dream! it's best to start out with an internship first, of course, and even better if you have contacts into the magazine world! you might even get a paid intern job! good luck!

I would suggest trying to find a writing job of any kind, but always be ready to move to a job which will bring you closer to your dream. There may even be such jobs available on the Internet.
