I need to cancel a magazine subscription/invoice, what do I do!?!?
-
I received a call from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) the other day. She kind of tricked me into staying on the phone by quickly stating that they weren't asking for donations.. so i stayed on figuring that it was some type of survey. The next thing I know, she's asking me what types of magazines I like to read. I was trying to get out of it politely (knowing what was about to come) and then she told me about the payments for this and that. Well, I mentioned that it wasn't a good idea for me right now because I am an unemployed college student (which is the truth!!) and I can't afford to have any subscriptions at the moment. Well, one thing led to another (while i was trying to get off the phone!) and I told her what my major was (business) and she was signing me up for Forbes magazine because it has a smaller monthly payment. Here's my problem ...YES, I agreed to getting an invoice in the mail within the week. ...i can't deny that, or say that she signed me up without my permission, because she didn't. She has me on tape confirming the invoice to be sent to my address!! I had taken this way out because I couldn't seem to get off the phone with her (nicely!), and this way i didn't give out any card #'s or any way that i could be automatically billed ...nothing except my home address. My plan is to just get the invoice (for the yearly ..or whatever amount of time it is) and send it back with "Cancel Subscription" on it. BUT I am a little scared that I will be responsible/subject to paying the bill because I did confirm getting an invoice sent to me. ...Will writing "cancel subscription' be sufficient since i am not yet getting a magazine, just a bill payment? I feel bad signing up for something with the intention of not following through. ..but I couldn't seem to get rid of the girl without being mean, or hanging up on her, etc. I'd appreciate advice.
