If i was to work at a magazine?

I would love to work for a magazine. I need help finding a college major?

  • Thank you in advance, it means a lot. I enjoy writing, and people have frequently told me that I have a talent for it since elementary. My dream job would be to work for a magazine, writing articles. However, I'm wary because I don't know what major is the best major in order to work for a magazine. I live in California, and do not want to leave this state. Is there a good possibility of me being hired for a magazine here with decent pay? I've heard that this career pursuit is a little shaky because print publications may not be in much demand as time passes by, in say, four years from now? (as technology is increasing.) I'm also very shy and introverted. I don't want to major in journalism for this reason because I don't want to have to interview people, or learn about the political sides that are discussed within many journalism courses? (if that is true.) For this reason, I'm considering to major in English. Do you think that I would still have a good shot to find a steady job working for a magazine by majoring in English, rather than Journalism? (If this doesn't work out, I have also considered majoring in either Media Arts or graphic design. I am slightly more talented in art than the average folk, but I'm hesitant because I know that there are so many people who are way more talented than me.) If anyone has insight on my questions, please help me out. Right now, I feel anxious and a bit hopeless just because I feel like time is dwindling away and I need to settle on a major quickly. College tuition is so expensive, I want to feel like I'm making this worth my time and pick on a worthy career (both for my interests, talents, and money-wise). THANK YOU!!

    I'm shy and introverted too! But maybe you could major in creative writing and write novels? that would be so cool! Something that I found that really helped me was to take a career or personality test because they show what skills you have and what you would possibly be good at, I would highly recommend that :)

You really need to have some articles in print in order for publishers to take notice.
