I Need article topic for an online magazine.

Good topic for college magazine article?

  • I want to join the magazine their starting at my college, potential writers need to submit a 200 word article beforehand. I'm just stuck on deciding a topic that college students would enjoy, I used to be a part of the magazine at my high school but it didn't do well since it focused on things such as the economy, healthy eating - basically, no teenager in the school was interested in reading it. So, any topic ideas that 16-18 year olds would be interested in? So far, the only the idea I have is the Internet - including such things as "top 5 websites visited by student" by doing a poll on my classmates, aswell as explaining internet terminology and fads now floating about - memes (e.g. lolcats), internet slang (lol, rofl, afk), trolling, leet speak, auctions snipers etc etc So far, I think I might use that idea... But was wondering firsthand if there are any other topics college students would rather read about?

    College students like to save money. And College students like to know what they need to prepare for professionally. So I'd focus on the Top Ten / Top Eleven list idea. Most magazines follow this pattern to make articles -- must read articles. Make the ideas concrete and applied. Examples might included: Want to get a job at a top company? Top Ten ways to get recruited. Want to intern with the best? Top Ten internship opportunities. Want to get awesome deals? Top Ten ways to buys stuff cheap on online auctions. Want a degree that pays? That's a good idea! College kids use the Internet a lot, so this would be interesting to them. Some other ideas I have include: ~Fashion: You can put the latest fashion trends, store recommendations, fashion blog recommendations ~Beauty: Makeup tips, skin product recommendations, latest skin care technology ~Movies: Watch the newest movies, summarize them, and give them a review/rating ~TV Shows: Do the same as movies. Watch, summarize, review. Look out for the newest shows that are coming out. ~Video games: Give a video game recommendation. Talk about how good/bad the plot, graphics, characters, and gameplay is. Determine a difficulty level for the game (easy, intermediate, hard). ~Technology: Write about the latest electronics, like computers, laptops, and smart phones. It could be recommendations, how-tos on how to do something interesting or new on a specific electronic, or the buzz floating around an upcoming electronic that hasn't hit the market yet. That's all I can come up with. Your Internet idea is really good though. It appeals to the market you are trying to appeal to, many people use the Internet, and it's relevant to today's pop culture. You could maybe start out doing this topic, then branch out into other topics. Good luck! :)
