Well, I actually think it's the male version of Womens' health. I think Cosmo is a little more...racy. Mens' health contains some adult material, but is more family friendly and mature than Cosmo. Yes, I am a guy, and I cracked Cosmo once out of curiosity. Basically, Mens' Health seems to be more directed towards the married family man or married family man hopeful who is looking to improve all aspects of his life, whereas Cosmo stays more on the shallow side, focusing more exclusively on how to be sexy and like the celebrities than anything else. Basically, if I were married, I would be confused as to why my wife had a Cosmo mag, because their primary purpose seems to be steering young woman towards gaining sex appeal and finding a sex partner than actually making positive life changes. Mens' Health and Womens' Health also incorporate elements of home improvement, family care, real relationship advice, politics and government, and practical life application stuff. It's not all about glitz and glamour and sex and celebrities. In my opinion, Cosmopolitan is somewhat demeaning in its portrayal of women. Just putting it out there. Every time they release a new issue, and I walk past it in the checkout stand, they have some new poster girl airbrushed beyond belief looking like a pixy or a goddess wearing the clothes of a nymph and there's always some huge bold caption that says 50 Steamy Sex Secrets or something. And that's what they focus on. I'm not saying there's nothing else, I'm saying that's what is put on display more clearly than anything else, and from what I've read, magazines like Cosmo are excellent at tearing down a girl's self esteem. The whole pixy goddess nymph image is portrayed as the only way to be acceptable to a man, and even if women aren't aware of it, subconsciously I believe that it wears down morale because for someone outside of Hollywood, it is ridiculously expensive if not impossible to live up to that standard because of how much is invested in beauty products, camera equipment, lighting, studios, and computer graphics that generate this artificial image. Woman feel compelled to go out and buy products that they believe will move them closer to the pixy goddess nymph look, and forget about character. I think that magazines like Cosmo are used to manipulate women into buying beauty products so that someone can get rich off of the insecurity they build up in women through the creation of these glitzy poster girls. That's the problem I have with Cosmo, as a guy, and feel that Mens' Health and Womens' Health are a lot less commercialized and a lot more helpful to the individual and society, and certainly more conducive to the stable nuclear family of America. Cosmo magazine encourages promiscuity more than anything else, which is an assault on the nuclear family, causing more people to focus on image rather than character. Image never made anyone happy, and if you're dating someone or friends with someone because of how they look, the relationship will not last. You have to build your relationships on character, and focus on your looks only as an extension and a reflection of your own character.
