How to be an online scrapbook designer?

I wanna be a Magazine designer?

  • Hi all - this is my first post :D When I am older I would love to own my own magazine and be the person who's incharge and who does the design layouts! I am only 13 - but I was wondering what I could to now to make the dream POSSIBLE? I am a member for cc4g and there is says how to be a magazine designer or a celebrity or a sports person etc But is there any other ways I could do? like any guides for designing covers , What lesson it would be good to get good grades in at school , What after school clubs should I take , what websites could I join? And what products could I do at home or with my friend etc? At home I always make backgrounds for my own scrapbook etc and sometimes I even use fabrics! p.s I love humanities , English is good - I always get good grades & maths - but I hate it! Product Design is awesome! but I am not that keen on art. Thanks for your help and sorry this is long Im just really curious! :D

Mass Communication, Journalism, Graphic Design are all areas that you should take classes in. Also, try to learn as much as you can about design and publishing software. Today's publishing world is very computer-orientated. Check out books in the library, take classes about different software programs, etc. Join clubs such as yearbook, newspaper staff, etc. Look at a lot of different magazines, even if the content doesn't interest you so that you can study what the professionals do. See if there is a local company that would let you come in and do a "job shadow" to see what goes on around their office. Depending on how big your school/city is, you could get a good head start even at 13. Oh, and when you finally get to college -- be sure to do an internship, even if it isn't required. That really helps land a good job!

That's my son's job.He is a senior graphic designer for a publishing company. He works on a sports mag and a health and beauty one.He does the entire design and layout for both mags.He has an honours degree in design and visual communication and he is also presently pursuing a Masters in Media production.Generally speaking if you are not that interested in art you might be better taking the journalism route into the magazine world. Abra's ideas are good as getting in to these jobs can be difficult. It's often because of who you know in the industry. Good luck anyway.By the way,my son loves his job :)
