What instrument would be easier to learn to play. Piano or guitar?
-
I really want to learn how to play the piano or guitar (electric or acoustic). Which is easier? I know how to play some stuff on piano but haven't had any professional training on either instruments.

Answer:
guitar, chords are easy once you understand the basics, piano is individual keys that take a while for your hand to memorize.

It's much less painful learning to play a piano, but then I've never seen anyone strolling along a sun-drenched beach whilst playing a piano. You need to be doing something spectacularly wrong to get a bad note out of a piano. That said, it is easy to learn bad habits if you're not receiving good tuition. Learning guitar is as much about building callouses on your fret hand as it is learning chords in the early stages. It's much less forgiving of poor technique, which although frustrating at first, will keep you on track for doing it properly without too much in the way of tuition.

I'd say piano is easier. But that's just my opinion. I only learned a bit of guitar (regular ones, aka acoustic) a while back in school. In response to what XL Twinkie said, it probably depends on the person. I definitely do NOT think cords would be all that easy... Keys, they repeat. Just remember part of it and you know the whole keyboard. Besides, it's darn hard to get a bad sound out of the piano. A key is a key, if you press it, the worse can happen is it's too loud or too quiet. Oh and, did I mention playing the guitar can be hard on your fingers? At the end of music class, my fingers hurt like hell >.> Those strings are darn tight, not even bit of elastic when you press down on them. Leaves lines behind by the time class is over. Keep in mind some things though, there are pros and cons if you already know bits of an instrument or any other thing for that matter. Starting afresh makes it easier to learn the correct techniques. While if you already know bits and parts, it may be easier for you to get a headstart. However, it gets hard to correct habits and stuff like that. Also, for what reason do you want to learn either instrument? If you learn the piano, basically, it'll be more grand and NOT portable... lol. How are you going to carry around this huge piano in your backpack or something? If you want to take your instrument around, the guitar would be a better choice. For piano, it's quite, or, very easy to find tutorials and version of songs and tunes to play. I'm not sure about guitars. If you pick guitar though, pick the one that suits you and what you want to play. I like acoustic ones better to be honest... Electric ones sound... a bit too fake to me. Then again, they seem to be popular these days. Well, it's all your choice.

They are both very hard and to be able to stay with it.They both need good hand coordination . So depends which instrument you want to play the most piano or guitar. Ohh but for guitar you have to buy new chords every 3 months or when they pop. Hope This helps
Christopher
they're both pretty easy....

If your leaning more towards playing guitar, here is a great blog with a bunch of articles and guitar links to guitar learning software that makes it easy to start. http://www.guitar-for-noobs.com/
I had asked the same question and my child's music teacher suggested the piano. I got my children to play with the letters before memorising the notes and it helped.

You should learn both, once you learn a little theory in music , other instruments will come much easier to you than if you had no experience. try this guitar site http://guitarmanual.typepad.com/blog/

None can really advise you on this perfectly. Instead your interest makes one easy and other difficult.
