Will my grade be okay for Cambridge?

Cambridge- Fourth AS Level Grade?

  • I am doing Maths, Further Maths, Physics and French at school at the moment. I plan to drop French and carry on with the other 3 next year and I think be able to get at least A*AA in these at A2. If I get 3 As for these at AS, but only a B or perhaps even a C in AS French will I have any chance of going to Cambridge?

  • Answer:

To study what? It's not exactly going to help you, because they will have loads of applicants who have four or even 5 A grades at A2. Conversely, how good you are at French doesn't exactly affect how good you are at maths... The danger here is that the low grade in the subject which "doesn't matter" may make it look like you're working flat out already to achieve A grades. At that point, you're probably _not_ a good enough candidate for Cambridge - you've already hit maximum potential. It's going to depend strongly on what the rest of your application looks like. 3As and a B while swimming at a national level and playing in three orchestras looks _very_ different to 3 As and a B while doing nothing else beyond a couple of clubs at lunchtime.
