Ged and college please help!?
-
I'm about to receive my General Education Diploma; however, I was wondering if I am possibly able to go straight to a 4 year uni instead of going to a Community College first; if otherwise, i will abide, and go the Community college route. Achieve a high Grade point average then transfer to a University to fulfill my goals. I currently am taking the five Ged test and So far I have taking three, they are: social studies: 580, Science:550 , and math 540. I was surprised that I did so bad on math and I am thinking about retaking it, so I can achieve a higher battery score. To sum it up I just want to go to a 4 year and be around people who share my same dream.and to feel the experience of a dorm. I am really ready to see how far I can push the limit of knowledge, and put a impact in mathematics, and scientific explorations. I think if you are going to try to do something you might as well do it to the best of your abilities and even further. That is how the greatest people of our time have changed our every day lives and how we find out things about the world that are of infinite possibilities. I know if they can do it, so can I; Its called, strive, and that is the motivation you get to excel. My dream is to go to a University and show my ability. Like stated above I was wondering if this could be done in absence of Community College. Thank you for your time

Answer:
It depends on the university and their entrance requirements, so be sure to contact the admissions department of the university you're considering. It also depends upon your other qualifications. I would highly recommend that you also take the SAT or ACT or both since one or the other is frequently a requirement. Overall, it's the OTHER stuff on your application that can balance out how the admissions department sees you. Someone with a 4.0 GPA and an honors diploma from high school can actually still end up getting rejected from many different universities. Why? Colleges want to know that you have some passions or at least some outside hobbies-- things you devote your time and energy to that make you a well-rounded person. If this hypothetical 4.0 whiz never did anything in high school except go home and play video games all day everyday, the university may just roll its eyes and put his boring application in the recycle bin. Clubs, sports, music, work, volunteering, projects, and so on-- those are the things that show what ELSE you're made of. To have the best college application, you need 1) proof of your academic dedication and ability and 2) proof of your being well-rounded and involved in things around you. I don't want you to feel depressed or disappointed or ashamed or anything like that, but we have to be honest here. Getting a G.E.D. automatically raises a question: Why didn't this person just get a regular diploma? You may want to address that in your application papers to clear up any possible questions. There are plenty of totally legitimate reasons why someone might not finish school the traditional way. You want to paint yourself in the best possible light here. Having lots of other things that show you're a well-rounded person who participates in other things is a great way to show that you're on the same footing with diploma-holding candidates. And I agree-- you'll definitely want to raise your scores as high as you can.
