Thinking about getting my GED?

  • ok so i just turned 20 years old this past november and i finished high school back in 07 i live in california and for most states we are required to pass the CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL EXIT EXAM in order to receive your high school diploma.. well i only passed the english portion of the test and im thinking if i go to get my ged will i have to just study for the math part or will they basicly have me doing everything over such as the english and math even though i already passed the english in high school..please help?? also is getting a ged harder than high school exit exam?

  • Answer:

    * Not meaning any offense, but you might brush up on your English (at least in the punctuation area). Good question, though. Better be prepared for the whole thing. But it tends to be easier than the HS tests you may have taken. Best of luck.

GED (good enough diploma) makes you take all the general courses of high school in order for you to pass. it only gets tougher as you get older and more set in your ways

oh no you di'int

I'm not too sure what a "high school exit exam" but I've had tons of friends who had no problem completing their GED. When you take your GED they combine 4 years of high school into 1 test basically. They are places that will prepare you for the test. I'd try taking your GED. Couldn't hurt anything.

They are pretty much the same. It is just general education courses. Either way, you will have to pass all of the subjects. Just study really hard and prepare for your test. It will look better if you have your actual diploma though- employers always tend to steer clear of the GEDs (unless it's McDonalds). You can always go to a study program also- they can help you prepare for it.

Give it a try, I got mine and it set my life in the right direction. The application fee is only like $20. When I took mine, I aced it with 95-100% on every section with 0 studying outside of math. In New Jersey you're allowed to retest a certain number of times on any parts you fail for free, it may be the same in CA as well. You don't really have much to lose by trying, but there's a lot to gain. Go for it!

Try to check these two sites. Also, you can call to your high school you went to and talk to one of the counselors, they should be able to provide with the best advice. http://education-portal.com/articles/All_About_the_GED:_California.html http://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/gs/hs/hsgrfaq.asp

Study everything, espsecially math. As you know, it's hard to get a a job w/o a GED

snowbro540

yes study the math. Its going to seem harder because it's alot you haven't done in years but you can do it!

Get your GED, you're not getting any younger and on top it's equivalent to a high school diploma. Peace!
