Photography vs. Photography and Design.

A Level Art and Design or A Level Photography?

  • Trying to decide which to take at A level. Don't know much about the A level photography course, although I'd have to do this as a night class 'cause I'm going to sixth form where they don't offer it. The A level art course is completely flexible and it's an option to take just photography, although there obviously won't be as much taught about photography, so most of it I'd have to do myself. I've heard art is A LOT of work, and I didn't take it at GCSE so idk.. Though I'm interested in other aspects of art, and the course offer graphic design, textiles etc. as well, would it be a problem that I can't draw? Doing photography I'd be able to use the darkroom and stuff as well which I won't with art :/. If I did take art and did just photography as my theme would I have to be amazinggg to get a high grade? Anyone with experience answer pleasssee, thank you X.

  • Answer:

I did a national diploma in art and design so I don't know how it varies from A Level but it's a lot of work yes. Infact I got taken off the course because I couldn't keep up with the workload in the second year. The course I went on you had to have a GCSE grade in art to get on. You should check that before you rack your brain worrying over which to take. You will get to do photography within A level A&D though and it's good. You won't have to teach yourself, you'll have specific photography teachers who'll take you out and set you projects to do. Obviously it may be different at your college but that's how it was at the one I studied at.
