How long does it legitly take to get your ged?

• I have looked around on the internet and have gotten many different answers, a day, a month, a year...so which is it? Its really important for me to have a good estimate on time seeing as how I only have a short time until I'm homeless. I would like to get my ged completed soon as possible so I can pick up and move, and start college. Is it more of a matter of how well you know the material? If there's only 5 tests, and I study, pass them in one week, I really am done? There's no loop holes or anything?. Also I was wondering if when I get my ged, will an out of state college/trading school accept me? Or do I need to become resident? Does the ged work in all states? (to get a good job, or go to school) All answers are appreciated. Thanks

  The GED requires testing in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. In my state, a counseling session, an assessment of reading level, and an assessment of career interests and aptitudes. These may or may not be required where you live, and your state may have some other requirements. If you do well in the subjects covered by the tests, then you may be able to complete the testing in a day. If you need to study for them, then it is hard to tell how long it will take. Usually people can pass them within 60 days. If the college or trade school will accept in-state students with GEDs, they will also accept out-of-state students with GEDs. However, you will still need to pay out-of-state tuition. Your GED will be accepted in all states.
