How long does it take to become Health Claims Specialist?

  • I've been in the Medical/ Nursing field since I were 17 years old. However, due to an accident I can no longer do that line of work that involves stand, pivot, lift, etc.. I was interested in possibly attending school to become a Health Claims Specialist. I was wondering how long it takes to become a CERTIFIED Health Claims Specialist? If you have any suggestions or advice as well about this profession, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

I don't think that most (or perhaps any) states certify health claims specialists. Community colleges and technical colleges often offer programs in medical coding and medical billing. Some have programs for health care business services. These institutions offer certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. It may only take a couple of months to complete a certificate program. A diploma will take about a year. An associate degree is usually two years. A number of schools which offer training in this field are scams. Therefore, I urge you to choose a community or technical college.
