What effect does media have on teens?

• I'm going to be doing a presentation on the effects of media. If anyone knows any effect media has on teens whether it be positive or negative please share it with me. Also if you know of anyone or have any experience of how media have affected you please share as well.

• Answer:

  The effect media has on teens is quite a broad perspective to conclude on. Media effects people on different levels all pertaining to the individual. Not ALL teens are rebellious and not ALL teens are obedient. Take a movie such as ' Silence of the Lambs', the amount of violence in it is catastrophic, however you did not find 200000 teens going around wanting to take a nibble of their friends or even their enemies. However, there was one or two people in every, perhaps, 10000 people that did do the cannibalism thing. Why? Because only that many people were sadistic enough in nature to try it, whereas others may have found the sensation of such a gruesome killing and end to their enemies satisfying they were sensible enough to know just how morally wrong it is. The point is that media is presented in a way to fulfil ones desires but only in a visually stimulating way. The effects it has on society or teenagers is completely left up to the up bringing and personal ethical and moral system that belongs to the individual. Just look into Sigmond Freuds theory of the id, ego and super ego. People who have a balanced system in their brain are able to ignore the underlying messages the media tries to implement on society, whereas the other portion of the population who do not have a balanced mind, resulting in psychological illnesses could be corrupted and entranced far more easily.
