Go to the firefighting forums. Tons of resources there. But first and foremost, before beginning anything, you should really know what you're getting into. Firefighting is that one occupation that everyone thinks they know about, but very few really do. Watching the reality TV shows and TV documentaries don't and can't show the truth. There is movie called "A Firefighter's Journey" it's about a big city academy and shows the harsh realities of fighting fires. It's a must see for anyone pursuing this profession. This article is going to focus on how you can BEST PREPARE yourself for the position of firefighter. Remember that the competition if very tough and you have to be able to show why you are the best candidate for the position. 3,000 people competing for 10 positions don't leave you with many margins for error. Think of the process of becoming a firefighter as survival of the fittest (or best prepared).

my friend is working towards being a fire fighter. He is currently in school to become a EMT which was the first thing he had to do. Were in Arizona, so maybe you should look into that.

perhaps the local fire dept will train you; or you could go to a vocational school for protective services (fire fighting)
