How can I improve my writing skills?

• My teacher had told me that my writing skills aren't very good. English is my first language. I just think I have difficulty getting my point across. She said I don't know the difference between writing and talking when I'm writing a paper. Now, this bothers me because I like writing stories and I'd like to maybe be an author. But if my writing skills are poor and I need to improve, and I can't do anything about it, then my future of being an author is trashed and I'll have to be something else.

  When writing a paper, you have to understand that there is a lot of punctuations. You have to use correct grammar. Grammar is pretty much the set of rules to make the flow going in any sentence. This is an example of what I'm talking about. Watch my punctuation... WRONG: "Before going to school Eddie stopped at my house". RIGHT: "Before going to school, Eddie stopped at my house." I'm really glad you want to be an author and write stories. Don't give up! You'll learn how to write even better as you attend school. Your teacher was a bit rude in her response.
