So I am in the I.B. program (magnet) how do I stay at the school but get out of the program?
-
I got to Myers Park High. The I.B. program is keeping me in the school because I live out of the district area. I'm suppose to have 3 languages by the end of my 10th grade year (I've only got two) so they prob. kick me out of the school. One how do I work around the program (without meeting that requirements) and stay at the school. Two how do I get out of the program legally and stay at te school?

Answer:
Continuation Requirements to Remain in a Magnet Program Once students are admitted into a magnet program, they are expected to participate in specific components, to enroll in required magnet courses and to pass the required courses. This section outlines the continuation requirements to remain in a magnet program. The following processes do not apply to an identified Exceptional Children’s student or to an English Language Learners/English as a Second Language (ESL) student. These identified students continue with their Individual Education Plans (IEP) or their ESL plans. Specific Magnet Components If a student does not participate in specific components (required of all students) of the following magnet programs, community service in the Center for Leadership and Global Economics and the International Baccalaureate programs, and internships in the Academy of Foreign Language high school program and in the Academy of Technology program, notice will be given at the time of non-compliance by staff responsible for that component for the student to comply immediately. A timeline for compliance includes two monitoring checks a year as designated by CMS or the magnet schools. If the student does not comply, a parent conference will be held with the student, parent or guardian and school staff representative to discuss non-compliance and develop a plan and timeline for immediate compliance. If the conference decision is that the student will not participate in the specific magnet component (s), his/her schedule will be reviewed and modified so the student is withdrawn from the magnet program but remains at the school for the remainder of the year. A new school choice must be made for the next school year. The school principal or designee will notify the student placement specialist of the student’s change in magnet status and request a new student application worksheet or a school reassignment/transfer form for the student to complete for new school assignment for the next school year. The student may not remain in the magnet school for the next school year. He/she can apply to the non-magnet portion of the school during the next application period, if applicable, and participate in the lottery process for admission.
