I'm switching schools for 8th grade from private to public school?
-
I just graduated 7th grade about a month ago from a private school. (the school goes from preK through 8th grade) i attended that school from 1st through 3rd grade then switched to a public elementary school that my mom worked at for 4th and 5th grade. (the school went from kindergarten through 6th) then back to the private school for 6th and 7th. the whole time i was there except for the first week or so of 6th grade i wanted to switch to the public middle school about a mile or less away from the public school. i talked with my parents in 6th grade about switching for 7th and 8th grade (the school goes from 6th to 8th grade) and they said no. then in 7th grade i wanted to switch all year but i didn't tell my parents till january because of certain things that happened the first half of the year. they didn't say no but they didn't say yes. i just left it at that. the issues at school were getting really bad with just jerks and stuff and i don't want to get into it. i told my parents about the issues and they still didn't have an answer. they said they would tell me the day before the last day of the school year if i was switching. it got to then and they told me i would be at the public middle school for 8th grade. HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!! so the things i need your help with for next year and my concerns: (in your answer you can put the number and your answer or whatever. thx) 1. FRIENDS- my friends from the public elementary school most of them go there but they all kinda seperated when middle school came and now have their own groups of friends. a few of them are in a group together. so my question is should i go to one of the groups and hang out with them or should i go to a couple and see where i fit in best or what? or should i just see where it takes me and maybe have my own group but still talk and stuff with my old friends or something else? also since it is 8th grade, everyone will already have their cliques and their is not very many new kids in 8th grade except like 2 or 3 (my older brother and sister both attended this school) so would i be welcome and will it be more of a challenge to make friends? i know to be myself and don't worry i will be. =) 2. TEASING- I'm a little vertically challenged but not by much. i was the shortest in my class but only by like 2 or 3 inches. im fine with my height but i got teased about it a lot at the private school cuz the kids were jerks. the teasing didn't bother me that much but it was like everyday i was hammered with it and i finally got sick of it and was close to blow my top. so my question is do you think ill still be teased a lot or not as much or not at all? im almost 14 and 5feet tall 3. DRUGS- ok. i am NOT a druggie but i know there will be quite a bit of kids who are. so my question is how do i avoid them or know which ones they are beside the obvious which is if they pass out in the hallway or have tabacco in their back pockets or them being drunk? im not nervous about peer pressure making me do drugs but if i find out like a friend does that stuff, what do i do? 4. CLOTHES- i have some really cute clothes (in my opinion but i came from a school with uniforms so i don't have the greatest fasion sense.) i went shopping with my mom at old navy for the new school year but is old navy ok? plus i have stuff from walmart and stuff from thrift stores that originally came from rue 21 and other places and some hand-me-downs from my sister. will that cut it for a public school? i might go thrift shopping some more later in the year but that's it. plus what colors would look good on me? i have green eyes and long down to my waist red hair. 5. MAKEUP- i was allowed to wear makeup at the private school but not to noticeable. my everyday wear was coverup for zits but not foundation cause i don't own any and i don't know if it would feel to caky or whatever, some eyebrow color cuz my eyebrow hairs are really light but it didn't look fake it was basically light brown eyeshadow that i put on my eyebrows, some blush but not real dark, some clear lip gloss for some shine, and for eyeshadow i normally did i shade of purple on the lid, some dark brown right near the lashline on the top to look like eyeliner but not as heavy or hard to put on and some light pink near the eyebrow. i also put some white eyeshaddow in the teardrop area and the outer edge of the eyebrow to make me look more awake. i know it sounds like a lot but it's really not very noticeable but i don't know what i should do for makeup next year. should i not do some of that? should i add some other stuff? different colors? what? any ideas appreciated here! 6. HALLWAYS- and the hallways are quite crowded so how do i manage getting to class ontime especially if i need to use the restroom or something? Thank you for everything!!!

Answer:
Ok you have alot of questions so ill break it down. 1. Friends, where i go to school your worries are really not there. I say you join a couple groups and see which one you fit in and are comfortable in the most, but don't worry things will just happen and you shouldn't try to force anything. the groups are really vague at my school so everybody's mostly friends. 2. Teasing, they don't usually tease that much at my school unless you act really annoying and stuff, stick close to friends and there'll be no worries, teasing happens less if your in a group and just remember to not notice them or anything because they'll just keep teasing if you do. 3. Drugs, At my school its mostly gang problems and stuff but no drugs. you don't actually SEE them passing out drugs or gangs unless your really in the circle of drugs or gangs. its mostly all after school and stuff. so if you JUST GO HOME, after school there won't be any problems 4. Clothes, i'm a guy so i really don't know much about clothes and fashion but what i generally see is just hollister stuff and abercombie and fitch stuff, but only SOME kids wear those types of clothes, your long hair would be different but i don't know. 5. Make-up, Again, not my cup of tea, but where i go to school i don't notice much make-up, maybe a feel eyeliner here and there but nothing major, but again, not my area of expertise. 6. Hallways, this is actually a subject im very good at. Each school is different in size and architecture so the school will set the correct amount of time for you to get through the whole school. At my school they give us 4 minutes because it takes 4 minutes to get from one end to the other but it depends. For restrooms and etc. make a schedule or go at lunch. just remember to go to the restrooms near a class so you'll have time to get there. Lastly, try to like develop kinda like a stopwatch or clock in your head to keep time when you're in the hallways. HOPE I HELPED AND GOOD LUCK AT YOUR NEW SCHOOL!!!!!!!!

Ok, well, it all depends on how large the school is that you are tranferring to. There's not much to say. Just test it out the first few days to get the feel of it or otherwise, you will be in over your head. Best of luck!

OK, I just finished the English equivalent of the 8th grade at a public school, and I can safely say that you have hardly anything to worry about. Here's my advice: 1) Try hanging out with your old friends for a bit. They'll have some new friends, and they'll introduce you to them, and then you'll have new friends. And, seriously, people don't just stay in groups all the time. 2) I went to a private school for one year (in the 6th grade) and I did get quite a bit of abuse. I wouldn't call it teasing - it was worse than that. They used to make fun of my surname (Wong) and wouldn't talk to me because I'd got the scholarship so I wasn't paying to go. The teachers didn't care, and one day I beat one of them up. Then I got into a lot of trouble. The abuse over my name continued when I went to a public school, but the teachers were far more understanding, especially when I got into fights over it all. So, if you do get teased a little bit, laugh it off, but if it's persistent tell someone. Don't tell unless you have to though, or you'll be known as a snitch and none of the kids will speak to you. 3) You'll be 14 next year, right? No kids at our age take drugs. The ones that do aren't seen as "cool", they're outcasts who have a lot of issues. It'll be at least another 3 or 4 years before anybody you know will be taking drugs, if anybody does. More people take drugs at private schools anyway - they want to rebel. 4) Sorry, don't know. Both my schools had a uniform. 5) Most schools have a no make-up policy, and the sanctions are quite severe for wearing it. I'm sure you could get away with a little make-up - a lot less than all the stuff you typed though. 6) There are usually multiple ways to every classroom, so ask your friends. If you have to go to the restroom, go at the beginning of break or recess or whatever you call it. If you find you're always being late for class, you may have to set off 4 or 5 minutes early. Hope this helps! And public school is so much better - no snobs!
