What would be the right career for me?

How did you decide what career you are currently doing right now?

  • I'm currently 16 and I wanted to be a chemical engineer, and now a veterinarian. However, after getting a lecture from my parents about course selections for university and for a future career, and how if I choose the wrong path (not get a job from my degree) I would just waste my time, effort and money. Thus, there's a slight chance I can convince them that I want to be vet since it isn't the most high demand job out there. Anyway, I'm confused! I'm planning to take three sciences: Chem, bio and physics next year and 2 maths: calculus, and adv. functions (our school system is rigor-- essentially the same as college/university system) but... I don't know what to do! My math grades are fairly poor (low 70s) and ugh. Any advice? How did you guys decide what career you are currently doing right now? Advices, stories, would be great! Thank you in advance!

In high school, I wanted to be an Automotive Engineer. Design and build cars and car parts. After realizing that jobs are hard to find and only like 5 schools offer it in America, with very high tuitions, I switched to liking Industrial Design. Designing the looks of cars only. Just the aesthetics. Or designing any other type of product. Then I found out that Industrial Design is also offered in only a few schools with high tuition and a waiting list to get in. Plus it is nearly impossible to find jobs. Then I started college and decided to be a Mechanical Engineer. I took the basic level ME courses and realized that I hated it. I did well with a B average, but it was so boring. And as the curriculum showed for the next 2 years, the junior and senior level classes were basically the next level of the classes I found boring. So I switched to Industrial Engineering. I found it most interesting because it has to do with manufacturing. I learned how things were made. How much they cost to make. How they are designed and thought out. How they are tested. How to start my own company and manage people. I ended up making the right choice. I just graduated last May.

well i decided to go for psychology because i see that there are a lot of people who need advice and plus i really don't like working outdoors. but if you find it more or less easy to do math i think you can do whatever you want to. i mean the stuff u don't know you will learn in college or university. but look at the pros and cons of each career and if you see yourself as a chemical engineer or as a vet. this is your decision and if you are still in high school i advice you to talk to your advisors or do some research. remeber it is YOUR decision YOUr future.
