What are some effective ways to study for final exams ?

  • Hey, I'm a grade 11 high school student, and at the end of this month (June) I'll be having final exams in all my courses....I've got over 2 and a half weeks left to study....I haven't done much studying yet and I obviously would like to do well on my exams. What are some good techniques used to study when it comes to memorizing information ? I've got to go over my notes and so on from all of my courses... How can you motivate yourself for success ? Regards Jordan Pickell

  • Answer:

okay firstly depending on what type of person you are studying with other pple who are taking the same test might help... Index Cards and trivia questions are one of the best ways to study make a game out of the things you need to learn Make a funny story out of the things you learned Outline the information then read over it daily Mostly i would say if you could highlight the key things you need to know and make sure too read them over daily

flashcards<<<best method!!! writing notes (cornell notes) writing down the specific terms down as you read

first, skim the entire test and give each topic a rating (hard, easy, ok, etc) then you start by studying the hard topics first and the easy ones later. that way you will be time efficient. also, make flashcards write information down. studies show that writing something down is equivalent to reading it 10 times. and keep your notes or your flash cards with you just incase you get some free time and you can review. also, come up with a study schedule. don't cram everything in on one night. hope this helps

Hi Jordan, Well obviously, ideally, you would've started learning earlier than now.. but hey... now's a start. You have to figure out how YOU remember things. With some people, it's listening, with others, it's seeing. I can remember things if they are in color - so for my grammar exam, which was always super hard, I just copied all my lessons highlighting different parts in different colors. Wrote it 3 times total, and by the end, I could remember it. Come the day of the exam, I remembered what was the answer, and in what color it was written! Repetition is key, I know it's a drag, but man, it works... Try talking about the subject with an adult, understanding it even better, making a story about it... if it has meaning for you, you'll also remember it better. Good luck to you!
