How can I make my Italian high school diploma valid in the US?

How do you make a career change at the age of 50 with no degrees other than high school diploma?

  • I just moved from east coast to mid west. I have been a bartender for 13 years. I am an attractive 50 year old female. I have natural color hair (meaning no bleached blonde or pink). My breast are real and I have two piercings ( one in each ear) and no tattoo's. I have very good work references but yet I can not get a Bartending job. I get a feeling that young and artificial is what is being sought in this area and have been actually told that by professionals or I should say management. So how do I go from bartender/server to say retail if that is the only work expierence I have to show.

  • Answer:

You first STOP thinking your looks are your only asset.... You can do anything from starting your own bar to teaching bartending in a Jr college. Any thing in sales is possible, Myself I would look into real estate sales because the sky is the limit in that field but you would have to take some school and you might have to sling hash for cash some times but if you have done bartending, you can do anything.....The cosmetic companys, Avon, Mary Kay, you are your own boss and it would be a plus to be 50 and beautiful, give the rest of us some hope. You might also inquire to these same bars if they have an early shift, where you might have to do every thing but scrub the floor but you have experience and maturity to build your own clientele. Good Luck

Keep trying to be a bartender if that is what you want to be. If you are attractive and don't look 50 then eventually somebody is going to pick you up. Another option is to find a rich man and there are a lot out that way so you don't even need to find a nasty one. If you wanted to become a porn star or stripper they make huge $$$ out that way. You can also go back to school for something that only takes a few months of school such as getting an act 120 to become a police officer or perhaps something like my mother did. She is 54 and just graduated from Allied Medical as a transcriptionist and billing specialist. She loves her new job and gets some great benefits. It is a tough call but do not give up on being a bartender if that is what you enjoy doing or are good at. There are so many bars just keep trying. Good luck!

Go back to school then change your look. I go to college and there are people old enough to be your mom there. Never too late. Lisa

you have tons of experience in customer service! retail isn't rocket science and you should have no problem getting a job as a sales associate. I mean look at all these young girls in high school who work in retail, you tink THEY had any experience? nope.

if you are willing to invest a little time you can get into a community college and study for a different profession. it has to come from within and be your focus. i did this quite a few years back (they said i should be retrained?) but i took a menial job at night and went to school days. now i have 3 BS degrees and make $72,500 per year, lots of perks, i have no bosses looking over my shoulder, i travel whenever i want. just purchased a brand new house cash. ti was hard but i am glad i did it.

A good resume writer should be able to show transferable skills. It is hard to get any work at this age no matter what the industry - if they can't get young and cheap they get illegal and cheap.

Hi! Your situation seems alittle familiar. I am now past 50, and spent many years doing waitressing-Bar tending-Retail and others in that field. At age 50, I realized that these type of jobs will fade and the money is unpredictable, so I decided to go back to school and become a Nurse. It was an excellent decision. Nurses are always in need. Having a public service background was helpful in communicating with patients, I am very happy with my choice and will never be out of work. It is something to consider for your future. There are plenty of programs out there for funding, because of the Nursing shortage. I hope that you can find something to set your goals on for the long term reward.
