What is school premises?

What are boarding school rules regarding going out of school premises on weekends and evenings?

• I'm a writer writing a fictional story about kids at a boarding school but I don't know much about if schools let students who are about 15-17 go out when they want or if just at weekends. If they have to go on pairs or groups, whether they need to ask permission or just sign in or out. Whether teenagers are allowed to go out in the evenings to go see a movie or go to dinner with friends. Any other dorm rules regarding whether girls can hang out in guys dorms and vice versa, whether its possible to sneak into each others dorms at night. Whether midnight secret dorm parties were possible. Personal experiences welcome as well as any other useful things I might find helpful or interesting about dorm and boarding school rules..

  2 of my cousins went to Boarding School. To leave the school premises either in the evening or weekends they had to written permission from their parents (who were working in Africa) first. The teacher's were constantly up and down the hall ways at night preventing them sneaking into anyone's dormitory, and were escorted to the sick room.
