Why do colleges recalculate GPA?

Answer:
High schools all have their own way of calculating. Some schools work on a 4.0 scale, some on a 100, and some on even weirder scales. Some schools weight and don't even calculate unweighted, others refuse to weight. Basically, colleges will recalculate it using their own formula so it's easy and fair to compare everyone.

They do not recalculate GPA. However they may not count all high school classes if they are not on the list of requirements.
