How important are Gcse grades when applying to good universities?
-
Hi, i just got my results and i got 2 A*'s, 7 A''s and one b. I got the B in drama and am not continuing it for A -levels. I got A star in English literature and Chemistry. and A's for maths, history, Classics, French, Bio and Physics. I was one mark of an A star in history, maths and physics. For a-levels i am doing Maths, english lit, classics and economics. Are these grades good enough for when applying to good universities or not? because my friends have got 7 a*'s etc. Please let me know. Thanks :)

Answer:
firstly, well done.. those grades are amazing your question greatly depends on what course you are doing the best thing to do is to check entry requirements for whatever course you want to do most of the things you will find will only have a level results requirement universities will may look at your gcse results to check your educational background however there are lots of other things universities will look at above your gcse results... like extra curricular stuff and other stuff related to the course you want to do to be honest, a level results will be much more important and concentrate on those!

Some unis require entry requirement for Gcse grades if you want to do specific course and you will have to put down these grades in you UCAS application. As far as I can see there shouldn't be any problem with that as you mainly got A's. If you want to apply for Oxford and cambridge(top unis) you need 5 A*-As which you have already and should get all A's in you A levels

of course they will be good enough, they're great grades! Essentially you only need good enough GCSE's to get into your chosen A level subjects. After that, GCSE's are no longer relevant (except maths and english which you need a C in to get into uni) Universities only go on A level grades, so now you just need to focus on getting good ones :) Good luck.
