How can I make studying fun?

How can i make homework and studying fun for myself?

  • Im going into high school this year, and i really need to do well in order to get into a good college, because i want to be a surgeon. last year in eighth grade, i found it hard to study, like i did everything besides study, and it was hard for me to focus while doing homework, and most of the time i wouldnt finish my homework. I really need this to change before high school. Any ideas on how i can make myself want to study and do well? or make homework fun for myself?

I don't really know if this is making it fun but it's making it worthwhile: 1. There is no harm in rewarding yourself. After an hour of studying take a break, watch a little tv (no more than 30 minutes) or eat a healthy snack, or go for a walk, or just lay down and relax. Come back and study again for an hour. 2. Don't let yourself not finish. If you have a few problems left don't take the break right away, stay a little longer and finish the problems. 3. Don't have anything open if your working off a computer and disconnect your internet to avoid distractions, turn off the television, radio, ipod, etc and just sit in a quiet well lit area. 4. Realize you have big goals and it's not worth tanking them over not studying or not doing an assignment. There will be plenty more episodes of your favorite show or set the DVR or TiVo or even catch them online. 5. Don't just sit and study for 5 hours. TAKE BREAKS! 6. Realize you are capable of studying hard and studying well and don't think it's impossible.

I don't think you can ever make homework fun. I suggest that you just keep your goal in mind though. "If I finish this homework assignment, I'm one step closer to becoming a surgeon". Try figuring out when you're most productive. For me, it was easier to always do my homework right after I got home from school. This left the rest of the day free for me to relax and do whatever I wanted to with no worries of finishing my homework. Other friends I had found it easier to do their homework late at night. The only problem with this is that if you wait too long, you're more prone to not doing it. If you keep finding yourself with problems doing your homework, try finishing all your assignments inside the library. In a library, it's a lot easier to get started and finish your homework. You can also try forming study groups with friends from school and work on your homework together and study for tests together. To do this last thing, remember that it's REALLY easy to not study and instead joke around. If you do make study groups, remember to actually try studying/doing homework. Lastly, just relax. College is a lot different than high school. Right now, everything seems really hard and boring, but when you get to college, you're gonna wish you had the homework that you do now.

i am one year older then you so i no what you mean. theres nothing you can do to make your self study well you could try like bribing yourself (eg. 1 hour of homework you get chocolate or buy something nice) sometimes i will study for 1 hour then go take a bath or watch some tv so it evens the painfulness out :)

Take it in small chunks. 3 hours of studying/homework might seem daunting, but not if you have a half-hour break every hour. Just make sure that after each hour, you can retain what you studied. There are no 'shortcuts' to working hard in high school that guarantee a good grade, just keep working at it.

Mini rewards are great way to stay motivated while studying. <33
