How similar is the British education system to the Canadian education system?

How does the personality of a child affect how well they perform or cope with a particular education system?

  • What I'm basically asking is how does a child's personality, how they learn etc affect how well they perform or cope with a particular way of education. By education system I mean religious schools, home schooling, government school, non denominational private, Montessori or Steiner. Does a child being an introvert or extrovert, visual learner or logistical learner, logical or creative etc affect in what education system they would best perform? I'm asking this because I attended (have recently graduated) a controlling and rigorous school most of my schooling. I feel I would have done well and immensely enjoyed (education isn't about enjoyment of course but if your kid is doing well at school and enjoys it well that's a win-win for everyone) being in Steiner education. I am and always have been extremely creative and though I was shy and had some speech issues in early childhood I feel that the verbal focus would have strengthened my speech and increased my confidence and independence. My skills are also mostly creative and/or verbal so it would have played to my way of learning and strength. Given my personality and way or learning would Steiner have been good for me or is it unwise to choose educational system based on children's learning styles and individual personalities?

  • Answer:

Don't worry about it. In the end there would be little difference. After college you'll probably forget about high school anyway.

Of course it matters, greatly. Learning styles are very important, and finding the education that can work with the best method will nearly guarantee the child will do well. That is why many people are home schooling. The individual needs of their children can be met. It would never be unwise to choose the best fit. Sure, a child may perform well, and ultimately succeed in any system, but they would have an easier, much more enjoyable, trip if they were able to learn their way! They may even have attained more. I am not familiar with Steiner.
