What job does Indiana Jones Do?

Archaeologist. But being an Archaeologist isn't like it was in the 30's.

I've been on two digs--one in Copan, Honduras and one in Belize. They were fun, but not anything like Indy's adventures. The lead archaeologist spends about a year preparing for a dig and then another year writing up the conclusions of the dig. Graduate students are usually the team leaders and undergraute students and volunteers are the dirt movers. You get to find some neat stuff, but the ratio is like 99 pieces of pottery versus one thing that's not pottery. I spent two days laying next to a skeleton, just trying to get his cranium out of the ground. If you just want to fight bad guys, maybe you don't want to be an archaeologist. He's a professor of archaeology at a university. Because he's an archaeologist, he gets to travel to exotic places and look for artifacts and historical finds, like the Lost Ark of the Covenant in the first one. If you want to be an archaeologist, major in anthropology when you go to college. Once you graduate, go back for your Master's and then your PhD in archaeology. Then you can get a job with a university or museum and go on archaeological digs to look for artifacts. Good luck!
