Is there an official meaning/a general consensus as to what the colors on the American flag really stand for?

. Well, historically: The WHITE for the stars is somewhat obvious --- the brilliant stars from the heavens standing for each state of the union (ultimately reaching/striving for the stars). The BLUE for the background color of the sky/space against which the new constellation of stars (The United Sates) was born and became a visible and shinning reality. Also the color of the Chief signifying vigilance, perseverance, and justice. The RED stripes (of the 13 original colonies) a take on the British colors (The Union Jack), standing for the rivers/fields of blood, shed to gain independence from the mother country. Also standing for the [hopeful and life-giving] rays of light emanating from the sun. and The WHITE stripes (of the alternate Red and White fields, of the 13 original colonies), a political statement against Great Britain for the inherent Purity and Innocence of the peace and liberty gained through armed struggle and bloodshed. Okay, but those colors have also come to represent other meanings: Red: Courage, Boldness, Valor/Bravery, Sacrifice, War, Hardiness, bloodshed, ... White: Liberty/Freedom, innocence, Purity, Secession (political significance), ... Blue: the color of the Chief signifying vigilance, perseverance & justice. So, is there an "official" meaning for the colors of the flag, beyond their sentimentally ascribed significance [especially in light of the pledge of allegiance]? The Pledge of Allegiance: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." BTW & FYI: We the Atheists [currently the most persecuted / hated / despised / distrusted group in this country] are PROUD to be Americans, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1NR2K-gazo&tracker=False&NR=1 .

From the book "Our Flag" published in 1989 by the House of Representatives... "On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress passed a resolution authorizing a committee to devise a seal for the United States of America. This mission, designed to reflect the Founding Fathers' beliefs, values, and sovereignty of the new Nation, did not become a reality until June 20, 1782. In heraldic devices, such as seals, each element has a specific meaning. Even colors have specific meanings. The colors red, white, and blue did not have meanings for The Stars and Stripes when it was adopted in 1777. However, the colors in the Great Seal did have specific meanings. Charles Thompson, Secretary of the Continental Congress, reporting to Congress on the Seal, stated: "The colors of the pales (the vertical stripes) are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valour, and Blue, the color of the Chief (the broad band above the stripes) signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice."

The white is the color of the dominant ethnic group in the country (will be changed to brown by 2050) Red is the arab blood shed by american troops to get enough oil Blue is the color of Jewish plots and conspiracy theorists. It's also the symbol of the Blue Man Group, the real leaders of today's America. If you disagree with me, it means you hate freedom and liberty and you're a communist.
