How to get in med School in USA?

Help a confused college freshman? If I don't get into med school, can I become an elementary school teacher?

  • My dad has been pushing me to become a dentist or doctor - I honestly do not feel capable, which is my biggest fear. Though I care for people a lot and genuinely like helping others, becoming a doctor requires a lot of intelligence. Although I took a few science honor courses in high school, I found myself struggling once in a while. I just do not grasp science as well as others. The thing is I have no idea what I want to be and it's extremely frustrating for me. I feel like I'm wasting my money here, taking classes I don't care much about. So I guess I thought "why not try pre med?.. I might as well..." But I'm afraid I'll screw up my GPA, which is crucial in getting into any kind of graduate school, and if I do not end up getting into med school, I don't want to end up being a chemistry or physics major. I don't think I want to be an engineer, nor would I want to work in a lab where I'd clean rat cages - plus, the pay sucks. SO. I love kids, and I will admit, I'd like to make a lot of money, but I was contemplating becoming an elementary school teacher. IF, let's say, med school doesn't work out, could I still become an elem. teacher? Or do I have to take a different path and diff. courses in undergrad to become one? I would have to teach science as a teacher, obviously, right ? Or can I change this in grad school? If I were to teach, I would love to be an English teacher and read to kids etc (but i don't want English to be my major....). HEELLLPPPP!!!! & thank you all in advance! :)

  • Answer:

Depending on your state and the degree offered. I graduated from Purdue in Indiana. Purdue gives BA's rather than BS'. BA's are better, more well rounded. Indiana also has the fifth highest standards in the country. I had to take bio, chem, and physics. That only licenses you through 6th grade. there are a handful of courses everyone has to take. there are always electives you can count some toward, but I would make a decision soon. There are lots of education courses laid out in your graduation plan an done is a prerequisite for the other. If you change after your freshman year you are delaying your graduation emensely.
