What qualifications do i need?

What qualifications do i need to become a phycologist? What GCSEs and A levels should i take? Im 14 by the way?

  • Okay so i really, really want to be a phycologist! I want to be either a clinical phycologist or an educational phycologist but i'm not too sure what i would need to take for my GCSEs and A levels, i cant take phycology in GCSE for some reason by the way. I've wanted to be this for a while now as people tell me on a regular basis that im a good listener and give great advise etc. People seem to come to me with their problems and i do tend to sort them out. For example, my best friend once started self harming and i helped her through it and now she's well again. Also, i've had a history of a close eating disorder and depression that i've now recovered from with my own strength and no professional help what so ever so i feel i'd be able to help others with that sort of thing as i know what helps you recover and what doesn't (hence me wanting to be a clinical phycologist). I'm great with people, especially with people younger than me (hence why i'd also like being an educational phycologist) and i'm really, really interested in learning about body language etc which will really help. I've become very aware of people around and i often try to figure out what's going on with them (yes im nosy) by listening to them and noticing body language etc. I even take notes about my friends as ive become very protective over them lately for various reasons. So yeah, please help:) Also, whats the chance of someone becoming a phycologist these days? ALSO, is there a possibility of phycologists traveling as i'd love to travel so much, i hate where i live... Thank you, hope i didnt bore you....

  • Answer:

I would think the chances of becoming a psychologist are quite high these days as it's such an interesting/important job. GCSEs I would say you need a science deffinatly but you should already do that as core anyway. A- level you would need to take psychology. I am currently in year 12 and studying psychology and it is deffinatly worth doing - it is very interesting and I probably enjoy it more than my other subjects.
