How much should I get paid as a math tutor?

  • Hi~ I will tutor a high school student (10th grade) on Math subject (Algebra 2, SAT Math preparation). And I am a junior in UC Irvine and have a major in chemistry. My question is how much I should get paid as a math tutor!

    30 dollars if u are a home/private tutor, then it will be around 50 - 70 (cause u teach a person and have to drive all the way to her or his place to teach. if his or her place is near or around your neighbourhood, then u can reduce the price a bit)

Of course, like any service, it's a question of how much you want and how much your client is willing to pay! I've tutored both college and high school students in mathematics since I was a freshman (currently senior), and I've settled on 20$ an hour. The range in my area is about $15 to $30 per hour depending on the tutor. But I live in Louisiana, so maybe since you live in California it would be reasonable to charge more. Oh, and keep in mind that you aren't a professional tutor, you are a college student, so if people start suggesting you toss out Sylvan rates, ignore them.
