Is majoring in Elementary Education hard?

Majoring in elementary education but not sure about minor?

  • I'm a junior in College majoring in Elementary Education. I'm going for my K-6 licensure in education and I will have a second concentration in the arts. I really don't like this concentration so I'm thinking about changing it to Geography!!! I love traveling and learning about the world!! I have not taken geography since freshman year of high school!! If not as a second concentration maybe even as a minor???I thought either Geography or Hospitality & Tourism Management as a minor... Is it possible to minor in one of these areas if you are majoring in education?

  • Answer:

I'm not exactly sure if there limits to what you can minor in with an education major; perhaps you could talk to an advisor? I'm not minoring in anything, but I'm going for my K-8 certification with a Special Ed. major. If possible, I would really recommend minoring in special ed, even if you don't want to be a special ed teacher. It's good insight and prepares you better for students with disabilities that you may have in your class. Other good areas could be teaching English as a second language (TESL), early childhood education (ECE), especially if you're most interested in the K-3 grades, or child psychology. All of these degree areas would help better prepare you for a teaching career. :) Though if you really want to minor in Geography or Hospitality & Tourism Management... talk with an advisor at your school. I'm sure they can help make it happen. :) Good luck!
