Who has a degree in early childhood education?

Is a degree in Early Childhood Education as "good" as a degree in Elementary Education?

  • Okay, so I had asked before about becoming a teacher... I went to the Elementary Education office and the councilor told me about the Early Childhood Education degree, which certifies you to teach preschool through 3rd grade. I really want to teach first or second grade anyway, and this major would allow me to graduate a year earlier than Elem Ed. Then she just changed my major. I'm a little worried, though, that future employers will look on this degree as not as good as an Elem Ed degree. I could be totally wrong on this, though. I suppose it could also be more like specialization. Anyone out there teaching Elementary school children with this degree? Is this a good route for someone who wants to teach grades K-3? Will I be paid about the same? I know Pre-school teachers hardly make anything... (I could be wrong about that to?) Will this "specialization" make it really hard to find a job?

  • Answer:

The answers vary based on state. You want your degree to be as wide as possible. Remeber there are lots of people with el ed degrees. The only thing you get with ece is pre school. You can get through 8th grade with el ed. There are far more jobs through 8th then there are with preK.
