What would be the best major for me?

What major would be best for me?\?

  • I'm beginning to figure out which colleges I want to go to, but I'm still wondering which major will be best for me. I'm planning on becoming a high school English teacher and a book writer. I know I'll need an English major, and I'll need to major in Secondary English, right? And should that be my major or minor? And should I minor in journalism or professional writing if that needs to be my major? I was also thinking about minoring in a foreign language, so I'd appreciate your help, especially if you are an English major or something related to that. Thanks for all your help!

  • Answer:

You seem to have two career goals which sounds like a double major in English Secondary Education and Professional Writing, with a minor in French. Be prepared to possibly spend summers or an extra semester or two in college to accomplish all that course work. You may find it better to focus on your career goals and then find a college that fits your goals, rather than picking the college first and then hoping that they offer something that fits. It may be that you will not find one college that offers all three when you first look. Even after you do find one, then do some research to see that they are strong in all three areas. Some colleges/universities have arrangements with some school districts for priority hiring so that could be a consideration.
