How Can I Make Money Tutoring?

• I don't even know if tutoring is the best option, I just know a lot about math, science, and civics/government. So how can i make money of my knowledge? I'm only almost 16 so I don't know if I can get a job... If tutoring is the best option: How should I about starting the "business?" How to get students? How much to charge? Where should I teach (my house, their house, Starbucks etc.)? How many students at a time? How to advertise that I know the subject and can teach it (I can, but how can I prove it)? How to advertise my service? +anything else! Thanks :)

  Tutoring is a good option. You simply start the business once you have acquired your first student. I would suggest marketing yourself to friends, family, and neighbors to start. You should ask if they know anyone who needs a tutor. Most people won't know anyone, but tell them to keep you in mind. You can also place a small ad in a local newspaper, but this is only after you have tried your friends, family, and neighbors. Reason? It's always better to get a referral from someone you know rather than working with a complete stranger. In terms of what to charge, tell the parent that your rates are negotiable and ask them what price they had in mind. I think you will find most parents to be generous. Be advised that some parents will not have much money for tutoring and you will have to decide if you want to work for whatever wage they propose. For referrals from family, friends, and neighbors, you could tutor at your home or theirs. But for strangers, I do recommend a public place like your library, Starbucks, etc. For tutoring, I recommend only one student at a time for two reasons: First, it allows you to focus on the specific needs of one individual Second, it's an excellent selling point for your services in that many parents appreciate knowing that you will be working exclusively with their child for the session. As for advertising, you don't need to prove anything. For the newspaper ad I mentioned, simply state: Private tutoring available in (list your subjects) and a phone number. I can guarantee that you if you are helping students as a result of your tutoring that you will eventually have more business than you can handle.
