Is it fun being an English teacher?

Advantages and Disadvantages to being a middle school algebra, history, and english teacher?

  • I really like all three of these subjects. I know teachers don't get paid much until after their 10th year, and then they can't really be hired anywhere else after 10 years. I'm really good at Algebra, I have a 96 in it. My teacher's mom had a car accident ( she's 85!) and guess who he left in charge of notes & explaining everything to the class? Yeah, and I hadn't even seen what we were going over yet OR had he left any notes (short notice) for me. I was doing mroe than the sub was! I love history, salem witch trials + holocaust = heaven for studying topics. don't know another way to put it. i have a photographic way of putting things together in my social studies class, and I have a 99 in that class. English is fun but at the same time, it's not fun to have a teacher who picks favorites and picks, well people she doesn't like. (when they care about their grades and still know how to have fun, unlike her favorite student who's a total suck-up and KNOWS it. they TRY to be.) sorry, makes me angry. I have a 99.7 in it, I've written 7? horrible books (in my opinion) and I am working on a GOOD one. finally. just a book of my thoughts.. kind of like a diary but less personal. anyways, I LOVE all of these and I UNDERSTAND all of them! Which one would you think is the best? I'm leaning more towards just majoring in ALL of them, but I don't even know if that's possible and that is probably extremely expensive. maybe I should be a 6th grade teacher and just throw in some science, (I'm good at science, just not with the atom stuff. I'm getting better at it now that I'm teaching it to myself instead of my stupid teacher who really is a cop, just had 2 months of school to become a teacher BECAUSE they were a cop.) Thanks! Bye.

The advantage is the more certified/licensed areas you have, the better. The only drawback is English and History typically have a glut of applicants, but you are on a solid footing with Math. If you get along in your college work and must decide on one....Math all the way.

You do not need to decide now. When you get to college, your first two years will allow you to take a wide variety of classes to see what you are interested in. As a math teacher, I have to have a very detailed skill set in math - it would be difficult for me to teach all those subjects well. As a young student you really do not yet know what it takes to teach a subject. You must have a major equivalent in your teach area - that means perhaps an extra 2-3 semesters foe each additional subject area. As far as your current teacher - please do not underestimate what he did to get the position - teachers are required to have a degree, PLUS a teaching credential in the area of expertise - it demeans the work he did to suggest it only took him 2 months. When you become a teacher - you will start to get kids your age -(who think they know everything btw) saying you are not qualified.... not a good thing..
